Probi® is a Swedish research company, a leader in probiotic research, founded in 1991 in Lund. But the journey started earlier than that. Back in the early 1980s, a couple of researchers at Lund University wondered why some intensive care patients had more difficulty recovering. The researchers concluded that the reason, in all likelihood, was due to a weakened intestinal barrier and abnormal gut flora. In a healthy gut, bacteria live in harmony with the body and their presence is therefore important. Addition of good bacteria was shown to contribute to faster recovery by strengthening the gut barrier and gut flora.
Today, Probi is a global company and our products with clinically proven lactic acid bacteria, known as probiotics, are available in more than 40 markets. Our head office is still in Lund, and we continue to have a strong connection to Lund University. Research and development is our top priority, to make sure the products we bring to the market have been researched and proven health benefits that make a difference to people's lives.
